A Bad Review for Carl Spitzer.
1951. Imagine. You've been a prominent businessman all your life. There's even a building and arcade downtown with your name on it! At the age of 70 you start painting for the first time ever because your daughter gives you a book for your birthday called Get in There and Paint. You paint some pictures. You're loving it. You totally get into it! Then the Toledo Museum of Art invites you to have a one-man show! (Isn't it great when you can get a show at the Toledo Museum of Art when you've only been painting for four years? Some people have all the luck!) The show opens on January 13, one of the biggest thrills of your life! -- complete with a newspaper article and your picture in the Blade! Two more glorious days of bliss...then it hits you -- it hits hard -- the January 16th edition of the Blade is slapped down on your doorstep. You read it over a three-minute egg and orange toast - you see the review, oh no, it can't be, it is, it's awful, it's savage, it's scathing! What they say!
Not nice...not nice AT ALL!!
